Tri-Valley Athletes have Historic Weekend at New Balance Nationals

PHILADELPHIA – Tri-Valley athletes traveled down to Philadelphia’s Franklin Field and excelled at New Balance Outdoor Track and Field Nationals. Kane “The Prodigy” Poje had one of the most outstanding performances by a thrower on the national stage in recent memory. Poje’s magical season continued as he combined for two All-American honors over the weekend. It started Friday when Poje’s triumphant shot put campaign continued with a 3rd place finish on the biggest stage. Poje carried that momentum into Saturday where he secured 2nd place in the hammer throw to make him a two time All-American in a little over 24 hours.

Poje said he would like to thank his family, coaches and teammates for helping him get to this point in his illustrious track and field career. Poje said he dedicates his performance this weekend to his father Frank for continuing to push him to be the best he can be and is glad he was able to make this a memorable Father’s Day weekend. As he continues to improve year in and year out, the sky is the limit for “The Prodigy.”

Next up was Anna Furman and she did not disappoint. Furman toed the start line Saturday evening in the 2000 meter steeplechase, an event she placed sixth last year for her first time becoming an All-American. She followed up last year’s accomplishment with a third place finish and a massive PR with a time of 6:41.18 making her a two time All-American in this event. This incredible performance capped an outstanding junior year for Furman where she won two individual state titles and led Tri-Valley’s cross country team to win the team Class D NY State championships. Furman’s time Saturday night was the 3rd fastest time in the country this year. Furman continues to dominate this event and will go into her senior year looking to take a swing at being a national champion.

Young phenom JoHanna Clarke capped one of Tri-Valley’s greatest freshman throwing seasons by a female athlete by finishing 7th place in the freshman discus. She missed the podium by only two inches. Clarke took off in indoor track and carried that momentum into the outdoor season. She goes into her sophomore year as the top ranked discus and shot put thrower in section IX class C. Clarke finished her amazing season as the top ranked freshman in all of NY State for the discus. The ceiling continues to rise for the freshman standout. Tri-Valley concludes a tremendous year with their top athletes excelling on the biggest stage. Way to go Bears!
