TRI-VALLEY — On Friday, February 16, 2024, Lions Stuart and Ilene Wizwer attended the 46th WSUL Heart-A-Thon, a 12-hour event at Resorts World Catskills to present a check from The Tri-Valley Lions in the amount of $500.  The WSUL Heart-A-Thon is the longest running community fund-Raiser in Sullivan County and is sponsored by the Sullivan County Visitors Association and was also broadcast live by 98.3 WSUL.  To date, this event has raised over $3 million.  Proceeds from the Heart-A-Thon go into the “Bold Gold Fund” of Orange and Sullivan Counties” and from there is distributed to organizations in our community for prevention, education and treatment of heart disease.

This year the WSUL Heart-A-Thon will benefit four organizations, Garnet Health Medical Center Catskills, Sullivan 180, A Single Bite and the STEAM Fund as follows:

Prevention: Sullivan 180 Empowering a Healthier Generation and Healthiest Fire Department Challenge Turtle awards; grants for schools and fire departments who are actively making changes that improve the health of our youth and first responders.

Education: A Single Bite’s four-part Real Food Education Program; teaches Sullivan County students to care about the food they eat and where it comes from, challenging them to make healthy choices whenever possible.

Steam Fund’s Full Steam Ahead with Healthy Habits initiative designed to make a generational improvement in health using music, songwriting, mindfulness, and movement providing children with tools to make healthier choices.

Treatment: Garnet Health Medical Center Catskills will receive funding to purchase state of the art echocardiogram equipment.

The Tri-Valley Lions, which was chartered in 1977, is now in our 47th year of existence, and we are always looking for new members.  Just as a reminder, The Tri-Valley Lions bring in donations and funding by selling sodas from our Soda Booth for events at the Grahamsville Fairgrounds, selling Chocolate Easter Bunnies, our Annual Journey For Sight Walk and Tag Day.  Our funding allows us to continue to provide monetary and service support to Local Food Pantries, Tri-Valley School Community Service and Achievement Awards, Children’s Eye Screenings, support for Diabetes,  Lymphoma and Leukemia organizations, childhood cancer, WSUL Heart-A-Thon, Guiding Eyes For The Blind, and so much more.  If you are interested in joining the Tri-Valley Lions or getting more information about our club, please contact Membership Chair, Pat Menje at 917-783-6253 or hvacpat69@gmail.com or President Stephen Miller at 845-798-1981 or sgrecords@hvc.rr.com.
