Tri-Valley seniors have their night

GRAHAMSVILLE -- In the song “One” written by Harry Nilsson and made famous by Three Dog Night in 1969 the lyrics to the song reads, “One is the Loneliest Number,” and unfortunately this became reality for the Eldred Lady Yellowjackets Tuesday night in Grahamsville as the Bears posted a 24-1 first quarter lead that led to a final 67-32 non-league win.

Tri-Valley celebrated their “Senior Recognition” night honoring seniors Jordan Carmody, Reagan Allison, Samantha Houghtaling, Victoria Swett and Heather Winters and these were the players that produced the 24-1 results for the entire first eight minutes of the game.

“These five seniors gave us a great senior night, and this is the first time this year they have all played together, and they scored one of our highest scoring quarters of the season,” Tri-Valley Coach Gary Ter Bush noted.

In that first quarter of play the senior Bears scoring attack was led by Victoria Swett who threw down two treys and one deuce for eight points. Jordan Carmody hit on three two-pointers for six points and both Reagan Allison and Samantha Houghtaling scored two deuces for four points each.

The only score for Eldred came at the 3:26 mark when Tatiana Quintana scored one foul shot.

The second quarter didn't fare much better for the Yellowjackets who were outscored 11-5 giving the Bears a commanding 35-6 halftime lead.

Eldred produced an improved second half of play and finally added some offense with 11 points in the third quarter and 15 points in the fourth quarter.

Eldred Coach June Hallock when asked what she saw in this game remarked, “I was pleased when we played very well and came together in the second half.”

She had noted prior to the start of the game that her squad was a “young team and we only have seven players.”

With the win Tri-Valley boosted their record to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Eldred's record falls to 1-10 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Turnovers in this game saw Eldred with 17 and Tri-Valley with 12.

Leading the scoring attack for the Bears was Swett with 16 points off three treys, three two-pointers and one foul shot. Also for Tri-Valley, Carmody popped the nets for 14 points off seven two-pointers.

High scorer for Eldred was junior Tatiana Quintana with 10 points off four deuces and two foul shots.
