SULLIVAN COUNTY — Did you know that Liberty has the first and only all-girl Scout troop in Sullivan County? Historically all-boys, Troop 1095 was founded more than 100 years ago. It was the first troop to usher into Sullivan County a historic, new take on Scouting. The Boy Scouts of America officially transitioned to Scouts BSA in 2019, opening the door to girls.

The traditional skills and values of Scouting are available today, as Troop 1095 welcomes girls ages 11 to 17. Our members learn outdoor skills, knots, fire, safety, camping, and much more. They attend one week of summer camp and earn merit badges in Environmental Science, Archery, Geocaching, and many more. The troop attended summer camp at the Forestburg Scout Reservation last year, and they visit other camps throughout the state.

Troop 1095 has participated in the Liberty Memorial Day Parade and Flags Out, honoring deceased military soldiers. The troop has had overnight campouts in all seasons, hikes, and other fundraisers. In January, members of the troop visited the indoor rock climbing gym in Albany.

The troop’s Senior Patrol Leader, Elaina Ramirez, is seeking to attain Eagle Scout, the highest Scout rank this spring. She will be the first female Eagle Scout in the history of Sullivan County. She completed her Eagle service project at Hanofee Park for Liberty Parks and Recreation by creating an improved accessibility feature and water drainage solution.

Chartered by the Liberty Rotary, Troop 1095 has weekly meetings on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM at the Liberty United Methodist Church. There are presently six scouts and nine leaders in the troop. Although the troop regularly meets in Liberty, there is a possibility of meeting in other areas of the County. Current scouts come from Narrowsburg, Kenoza Lake, Bethel, and Liberty. Troop 1095 is actively seeking and welcoming new scouts to the troop, girls ages 11-17. Please contact libertytroop1095@gmail.com for more information.
