UFO sightings spark interest across Sullivan County

Sullivan County — In response to Julio Valentin’s UFO sighting last month in the Beechwoods, several more Sullivan County residents have called up to report on what they saw.

In Bethel

Bethel resident Eddie Kestler, along with his wife, Lori, were outside on February 18 at 6:25 p.m. when a big dark disc appeared right over their house, which is located in Indian Field by Lake Superior.

“It came over the house and was silent and fast,” Eddie said. “It was a black disc that went right past us and was moving too fast [to get a photo].”

Eddie said he and his wife are avid star gazers who spend time outside, counting satellites and enjoying the stars.

“This object was 1/2 mile or 1 mile in the air and at least 50 yards in diameter,” Eddie said. “It was traveling from the Northeast to the Southwest. I just hope someone else saw it.”

He also said that he witnessed another sighting about ten years ago when they saw another large object on the horizon.

“It went down over the horizon and then came back up,” he said. “And then three smaller objects came from one direction and two from another.

“They sat there for a minute or two and then the big one took off,” he said. “All of a sudden the five little ones took off in the same direction.”

Over Kauneonga Lake

Dr. Phillip Jacobs called in to tell about his sighting of a flying object about 10 years ago.

“What Julio [Valentin] saw is exactly what happened,” he said.

Dr. Jacobs said that he and his brother, William, were walking by Kauneonga Lake when a bright object zoomed over, about 2,000 feet up.

“It was a bright orange orb,” he said. “It hovered over the lake. It was unlike anything either of us had seen in our lives.

“It was breathtaking,” Dr. Jacobs said. “And so eerie. It was unbelievable and it defied our logic.”

Dr. Jacobs said that he and his brother were trying to think what it could have been but they couldn’t think of anything it resembled.

Their close encounter happened at 3:30 p.m. on a spring afternoon.

In Loch Sheldrake

Fremont Center resident Lucy Santoro said her close encounter happened between 1985 and 1990, when she was working as the Director of Health Services for New Hope in Loch Sheldrake.

“We had a break and everyone went out to have a smoke,” she said. “I was smoking too.”

As she stood outside she saw lights “out of the corner of my eye.

“There were three lights, absolutely quiet and they traversed over my head,” she said. “I was thinking it might be three helicopters but there was absolutely no noise.

“It was soundless and then they went over the horizon and I couldn’t see them any more,” she said.

“It always stuck with me and I never told anybody about it,” Santoro said. “But I couldn’t let my neighbor, Jim Greier, upstage me.”

Greier told about his encounter with a UFO in an earlier edition.
