On Thursday, July 28 at 7:00 p.m., artist Leslie Bender will share her story at the Mamakating Library as depicted in the art she has created from her early 20s through her present age of 70. Leslie will share the meaning behind the imagery, including the broader context of a woman who has devoted her life to reaching clarity and joy from the depths of despair due to family violence.
“By manipulating formal paint qualities, overlapping and interrupting representational imagery with density, layering, intensity, light and darkness, I create a visual tapestry that evokes the effect old emotional content and past illusions have on our current perceptions.”
Leslie’s talk will be presented both in-person and over Zoom, for those who would like to attend remotely. Note that it is intended for an adult audience. To see more of Leslie’s work, visit lesliebender.com.
Please register at mamakatinglibrary.org or call (854)888-8004. When registering, please choose either “in-person” or “via Zoom.” The Mamakating Library is located at 128 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.
