MONTICELLO –The Monticello Panthers wrestling team met with perennial powerhouse Monroe-Woodbury Wednesday night for a match in Monticello. Although they lost the overall match 65–16, there were three athletes who won their individual matches.

In the 103 lb. weight class the Panthers’ Aidan Fabricant won his match with a pin at 4:53. In the 215 lb. weight class Dion Knight won his match on points, 5–0. And Julio Santiago pinned his opponent at 5:06 into the match for a win in the 285 lb. weight class.

Monticello head coach Patrick Owens said, “I’m excited at how we came out and battled. We’re showing a lot of progress. Our program is extremely young, not a lot of experience in our group. The fact that we could come out and battle against an established program with such a history of winning...it felt good. There’s a lot of growth to be had, but there’s going to be success on the horizon for Monticello wrestling.”

Monticello will be back on the mat in a Dual meet on Saturday January 3, at Warwick High School.
