Vera A. Atkins of Neversink, NY, a retired telephone operator for NY Telephone Co., and a lifelong area resident died Friday, May 28, 2021 at the Garnet Health Medical Center, Harris, NY. She was 98.

The daughter of the late Daniel P. and Beatrice Davis Akerley, she was born December 12, 1922 in Grooville, NY.

Vera was a member of the Grahamsville United Methodist Church and a member of the Alchemy Club, Grahamsville, NY. She enjoyed writing poetry, doing puzzles and reading. She was very close with her family and loved by everyone she met.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Atkins and his wife Mary of Grahamsville, NY and Charles Vasko of Liberty, NY; one daughter, Marilyn Vasko Laufer of White Sulphur Springs, NY; two sisters, Thelma Dobell of Bradenton, FL and Audrey Curry of Neversink, NY; one brother, John Akerley and his wife JoAnn of Neversink, NY; six grandchildren including Kenny Atkins, Anthony Atkins and Wayne Atkins; nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 9-11 AM in the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty, NY. Funeral services followed on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 11 AM in the funeral home. The Rev. Seung Jin Hong officiated. Burial will be in the Rural Cemetery, Grahamsville, NY.
