Village elections receive small turnout

SULLIVAN COUNTY – Villages across Sullivan County held elections on Wednesday, with many races not even having names on the ballot and drawing a small turnout.

In Wurtsboro, Frank Krupp secured election to a four-year Village Trustee seat in a write-in-only contest, receiving the overwhelming majority of votes cast.

According to Village Clerk-Treasurer Gina Langowsky, a total of 112 ballots were cast. Krupp received 87 in-person votes and one absentee ballot, far outpacing all other candidates.

He will fill the seat left by Trustee Lyman Holmes, who has served the village for many years and is retiring from the board.

Other write-in candidates included Piotr Archacki with seven votes, Jacqueline Graber and Jonathan Bracci with six votes each, John Fattorusso with three votes, and Frank Sisco and Aurthur Bailey with one vote each.

In the Village of Ateres, three incumbents–Mayor Eleizer Klein and Trustees Hershel Neiman and Zev Tarkieltaub–all received six votes each to continue their two-year terms.

In Jeffersonville, two incumbents were vying for re-election to their seats.

Running unopposed for their individual, separate seats were incumbent Trustees Gregory Brewer and Brad Haberli who were each running for a two-year term.

Nine voters showed up to the polls, with both Brewer and Haberli each getting nine votes, allowing them to retain their seats.

In Monticello, incumbent Democrat Trustees Gordon Jenkins and John Barbarite won their seats for four more years, with 419 and 413 votes respectively. A third candidate, Aron Grunwald, received 206 votes on the “Monticello United” line. Village Justice Douglas Solomon garnered 104 votes.
