WHITE SULPHUR– Sullivan County Women’s Softball League playoffs are officially underway. Intermittent rain and wet field conditions forced a cancellation at Collins Field, leaving Fireman’s Park as the sole Thursday evening postseason game location. The Spitfires were hoping to snag another win, this time over We Care, but the Bears had other plans for the home team.

The Spitfires were the first to get on the scoreboard, with Alisha Trautschold crossing the bag, but the Bears’ defense held them to just a single run scored in the top of the second inning. The two teams traded runs in the third and fourth innings, Trautschold scoring again for the Spitfires along with contributions from Clara LeRoy and Emily Stephens. We Care rallied. Charley Yaun, Makayla Ruprrecht, Bethanii Padu and Carlie Bassney all crossing home plate for the Bears. By the bottom of the third, the score was all even at four, and it was still anyone’s game. The Spitfires were able to take a 6-5 lead in the fourth inning, but it was brief.

The Bears held the Spitfires scoreless in the top of the fifth, quickly wrapping up three outs in the field. This worked in their favor as they moved three players across home base to take an 8-6 lead. There wasn’t much action for the Spitfires in the sixth inning except for a double from LeRoy, but unfortunately, they were unable to score again before the third out and headed back into the outfield. We Care saw their lead grow in the later innings to secure an 11-7 victory over the Spitfires. On Friday evening the Spitfires evened up the series 1-1 with a 22-1 win over We Care. The winner of game three will move on to the next round.
