Weekend full of luck

Posted

It’s that time of the year once more where you get out your best green attire, enjoy watching some parades and take in all the sights, sounds, food and colors of St. Patrick’s Day. This Monday, March 17 – er, Saturday, March 15 –  is that day.

One of the more famous parades in New York City will kick off their celebration on Monday, marching down Fifth Avenue in Manhattan for the 264th anniversary of the parade. Thankfully, you don’t need to travel all the way down into the Big Apple to enjoy the festivities.

In both Jeffersonville and Yulan, tradition carries on with parades of their own – each with their own histories and each with their own dates and times. It will be a weekend long celebration!

On Saturday, March 15 at 1 p.m., the Jeffersonville parade will kick off, hosted by the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH). Keeping the hype up, the very next day on Sunday, March 16, Yulan will see the return of the second annual Marion O’Neill Culture Club’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It’s a non-stop party!

Remember to also keep an eye on your local pub or neighboring volunteer fire department for any corned beef and cabbage dinners as well. Supporting those who are always there when you need them is never a bad idea.

With all this excitement, today’s the day to get stocked up on green garments if you don’t have enough for the whole weekend – you don’t want to be the one getting pinched for not wearing green!
