MAMAKATING —A board position of Historian has been established at the Phillipsport Community Center, recognizing the lifelong work of longtime member Jack Weiser in chronicling in text and images the history of the circa 1860s schoolhouse property, local canal, the O&W railroad, and the hamlet of Phillipsport itself. Members unanimously approved the new position at the October monthly meeting and the election of Weiser to the post.

“Jack has meticulously and diligently maintained the archives at our community center meeting place for more than five decades,” said Bob Speziale, PCC President.

“He more than deserves to be honored for his tireless efforts in documenting, preserving and showcasing our rich history. In sharing his broad knowledge of historic precedent and notable milestones of the area’s hamlets and the Town of Mamakating, he has brought character and distinction to our community.”
