SULLIVAN COUNTY — The first snowfall of the winter season on Friday last week brought an estimated six to ten inches of snow, varying in depth throughout the county. As of Friday around 10 a.m., NYSEG reported that over 8,000 customers were without power.
A winter storm warning was issued early Friday morning and extended through the afternoon. Joining Sullivan in the affected area was Tompkins, Madison, Cortland, Chenango, Otsego, Tioga, Broome, Delaware, Greene and Ulster counties. As the storm progressed, reports of downed trees, road closures and other snow-related issues were prevelant throughout the county.
All eight of the public school districts in the county closed their doors for a snow day. Joining them in shutting their doors because of the weather was the Sullivan County Government Center and Sullivan County BOCES campus.
According to the National Weather Service, the temperature around the county hovered around freezing, but saw a windchill of 22 degrees Fahrenheit.
