Woman arrested for Vehicular Manslaughter

THOMPSON — New York State Police responded to a motor vehicle accident early Saturday morning, January 5, that resulted  in the death of a pedestrian.

According to State Police,  31-year-old Sadia K. Thomas was traveling on Glen Wild Road at approximately 12:50 am when her 2018 Toyota RAV 4 struck a pedestrian. The victim, 29-year-old Vanessa M. Hopper of Liberty, was taken to Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown, where she was pronounced deceased.

Thomas has been arrested and charged with Driving While Ability Impaired (DWAI) by a Combination of Alcohol/Drugs (Misdemeanor) and Vehicular Manslaughter Second Degree (D Felony). Thomas was arraigned in the Town of Mamakating Court and placed in custody of the Sullivan County Jail with bail set at $25,000 cash, $50,000 bond, or $100,000 partially secured bond.
