MIDDLETOWN – Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Cheryl Crumley, and Town of Wallkill Commissioner of Public Works, Michele Baker, will be honored by Assemblywoman Paula Elaine Kay and Senator James Skoufis (NY-42) as Women of Distinction at Women’s Recognition Night.
Kay says, “Lt. Crumley and Commissioner Baker are outstanding members of our community—local, determined, and successful in non-traditional fields.”
Senator Skoufis has also chosen two women to be honored. The awards will be presented today from 5-7 p.m. at Tapped, 22 Henry St., Middletown, NY.
Lt. Crumley has a 22-year career protecting the people of Sullivan County. She was the first to achieve her rank in the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, and was recently awarded The Sheriff Colleen O’Neill award, given to an outstanding female deputy who has made a significant and meaningful contribution to the advancement of the Office of Sheriff. She was recognized for her work as a crisis negotiator, as well as her command of the Sheriff’s Youth Division. She is past president of The State of New York Police Juvenile Officers Association.
Commissioner Baker’s three-decade career includes being the first woman to serve as Commissioner of Public Works in both the Town of Wallkill and all of Orange County. Baker has been instrumental in securing funding for major infrastructure improvements. As the town’s Chief Grant Administrator, she helped obtain approximately $37 million in state and federal funding to upgrade roads, water and sewer systems, parks, and community facilities without increasing costs to local taxpayers.
Kay says, “I believe these strong women are shining examples of dedicated public servants who make our lives safer and better every day.”
