arch is Women’s History Month. It has been celebrated all over the world since 1978. It first began as a week-long celebration in California. As we enter Women’s History Month, it’s important to not just acknowledge the achievements of women throughout history but to actively reflect on the ongoing struggles for gender equality and commit to building a future where every woman’s voice is heard and valued.

This month is an opportunity to highlight the often overlooked contributions of women in diverse fields, from science and politics to art and activism, reminding us that history is not solely defined by the stories of men. Women are often overlooked for promotions and job opportunities where a woman’s voice is key to understanding both our similarities and our differences.

Celebrating figures at the National level is important but recognizing local women who have made notable contributions to our area is equally significant.  The Professional Women of Sullivan County (PWSC) is a local chapter of New York State Women, Inc. an organization that helps connect women personally, professionally, and politically, fostering the success of women in the workforce with chapters throughout the state. Their vision is to empower women to use their voices to create positive change, and membership is open to all. This month, in honor of Women’s History Month, the organization has chosen 12 local women who have made important contributions to Sullivan County. The evening will include dinner, and members will give a 4-5 minute presentation on a local woman who made a difference. The meeting is open to the public and will be held on Wednesday, March 19. Time and location TBA. For more information and if you would like to attend, contact Janet Carey at 914-799-5044 or jcarey1789@aol.com by March 16.
