PATCHOGUE — The Lady Yellowjackets from Eldred are headed to Long Island tonight to take on the Smithtown Christian Knights in the first regional round of the NYSPHSAA Girls Basketball State Championship tournament.

The Eldred girls posted an overall record of 6-12 this winter, but put forth a perfect 2-0 record in Class D, earning them a Section IX Championship and entry into the State tourney.

The Smithtown Christian Knights posted a 5-13 record with a league record of 5-9. The Knights average 38 points per game and hail from Section XI, in which they are the only Class D school in their playoff bracket, similar to Eldred in Section IX.

The two schools will meet tonight at St Joseph University on Long Island as the Lady Yellowjackets will hope to continue their season and take on Section IV in the second round.
