Youngsville churches celebrate 10 years of community

YOUNGSVILLE — The St Francis and the United Reformed churches came together again this year and created baskets for some of its residents here in the Youngsville area. Forty-seven “Thinking of You Baskets” were assembled and delivered to residents as well as thirty-seven food baskets. The “Thinking of You Baskets” are created to remind people they haven’t been forgotten especially during the holidays. These baskets, along with a beautiful poinsettia, are designed  for former residents in nursing homes, shut-ins, and people who, for whatever reason, may have had a particular difficult time during the year through personal loss or illness.  The food baskets include a ham or turkey and a full array of food for several meals.  Socks, mittens, gloves and hats, especially for the young people in the family, are included.  A special thanks goes out to Pecks Food Market, Hillside  Greenhouse, Ancient Order of Hibernians Sullivan Brothers Division 1, the Cooperative Extension Youngsville Fire Crackers for their contributions to this endeavor along with all the people who made personal donations.  Thanks to all those who donated and shopped for food, assembled baskets, and delivered those eighty-five baskets.  Well over two hundred people were in some way involved in this project.   The recipients continued appreciation for these baskets  makes it all worthwhile.  According to the Sullivan County Democrat “Down the Decades” we have been doing this for at least ten years.

If you would like to make a donation towards our holiday baskets, you can send a check to St. Francis Church, Box 262, Youngsville, NY 12791 or United Reformed Church of Youngsville, c/o Karen Schaefer, 400 North Branch, Jeffersonville RD, Jeffersonville, NY 12748.

Expenses are shared equally between the two churches.
