Youngsville water back to full capacity

YOUNGSVILLE –– After a main break was caused by last week’s flooding, water has been fully restored to capacity in Youngsville as of Sunday morning, according to Town of Callicoon Supervisor Tom Bose.

However, a boil water order is still in effect until the water district passes Department of Health testing. Bose said they hope to get the green light by Wednesday night.

Bose said the town has done a temporary repair of the main at this time, as the part that broke is located in the stream. They plan to do a permanent fix using horizontal drilling to put a heavy duty plastic pipe under the streambed that would ensure that this type of flooding event wouldn’t cause further main breaks in that spot in the future.

According to Bose, a pilot hole will need to be drilled first to see if the project is doable, otherwise the town will have to look at other options.

Bose expressed gratitude to the residents of the Youngsville Water District for their patience.

“Everyone was so gracious and understanding when we notified them about the break,” said Bose.

He also thanked Joe Kavleski, the licensed water treatment plant operator, and Kevin Klein, the water district superintendent, for their work during this process. He also thanked Town Clerk Kim Klein, who is also the water district clerk, and Deputy Supervisor David Kuebler.

Kim Klein, Kuebler and Bose went door-to-door to let people know about the break.

Bose also thanked the Youngsville Fire Department for laying hose and helping provide drinking water for residents affected by the main break.

“It was a team effort,” said Bose. “Everyone worked very well together.”
