Yulan goes green for St. Patrick’s Day

Tyler Schwartz of Yulan had the perfect seating for his children in the family’s Radio Flyer red wagon for his son Dawson and daughter Adalynn to see the Parade.

What’s a parade without a great spot to wet your whistle? Taryn Neike, left, and Connie Walton handled the revelers need for drinks at the bar of the Crossroads Lounge and Restaurant in Yulan. All kinds of delicious Irish and American food menus kept everyone happy and well-fed.

Local real estate broker, Paul Burkhardt of Eldred, has his St.Paddy’s style together. Without a doubt Mr. Burkhardt was sporting the best hat at the Parade.

The much-loved community resource, the Barryville Farmers Market, was well represented with the assistance of a giant cow to remind us to eat local from our nearby farms and markets.

All the Irish eyes were smiling on Sunday, March 17, including the local weatherman’s, as the St. Patrick’s Day Parade returned to Yulan after many years absence. With excited onlookers lining the four corner’s neighborhood the parade didn’t disappoint.

Stepping off across the green starting line onto shamrock-decorated roadway on Sunday, the marchers had over twelve floats and trucks representing local fire departments, Boy Scouts, face painters, live Irish music, food, churches, local businesses, the Sullivan County Sheriff and a group of horseback riders.

The return of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade was a great community gathering for the whole family and a fitting tribute to the Irish culture in our country.
