Last week, a federal judge in California extended the Census deadline to October 31. The previous deadline would have been tomorrow. On Saturday, local organizations including the Sullivan County Complete Count Committee (CCC), Youth Economic Group (YEG) and Sullivan County Young Democrats set up shop at Lapolt Park in the Village of Liberty registering people to vote and getting people to fill out the Census. Acting District Attorney Meagan Galligan, NYS Senator Jen Metzger and Leif Johansen, a field organizer for U.S. Congressman Antonio Delgado's office, all spoke during the event. The county's Census response is currently second to last in the state. Thousands of dollars in state aid could be lost for each person who does not fill it out. And government representation could also be affected. To complete the census, visit 2020census.gov. Pictured are members of YEG getting materials together for the event. The group of talented local youth helped register several voters on Saturday.
