Liberty police arrest man suspected of homicide

LIBERTY — The Village of Liberty Police Department announced on Tuesday that they've made an arrest in connection to a homicide that occurred on Liberty Street late Monday.

According to Detective Sergeant Steven D'Agata, Liberty PD responded to a call for remains discovered in a shed behind a single family residence located at 40 Liberty Street in the village on November 30th.

Their investigation determined that a woman died as “the apparent result of a domestic dispute,” D'Agata said in a press release.

Cedric Clarkson, 49, of Liberty, was subsequently arrested and charged with Murder in the Second Degree, a class A felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth, a class A misdemeanor.

Liberty PD confirmed to the Democrat that the victim was Jailyn Flecha.

Flecha was a 2008 graduate of Sullivan West.

“This unexpected loss and tragedy has been unbearable for the Flecha family,” reads a GoFundMe page organized to support her family, describing Flecha as “an amazing and loving mother.”

Clarkson was arraigned before the Town of Liberty Justice Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.

The Village of Liberty Police were assisted by the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office, the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit.

Clarkson is due back in Town of Liberty Court on December 16th at 2:00pm.
