Bears win season opener over Manor

GRAHAMSVILLE – Tri-Valley opened their season on Thursday afternoon with a 12-1 win over Livingston Manor. Austin Hartman threw a complete game (5 innings) and struck out 14 while giving up just one hit.

Softball

Chester got the better of Liberty on Thursday afternoon, defeating the Indians 23-0 in five innings. Chester combined for a no-hitter with eight strikeouts, and Liberty’s record moved to 1-2 (1-1) after the loss. 

Liberty and Burke Catholic competed on Friday, and after four close innings, Burke pulled away en route to a 21-7 victory. Grace Wormuth paced Liberty’s offense, going 2-3 with a walk, stolen base and two runs scored. Quinn Allen contributed a double, walk and three RBIs. Liberty is now 1-3 on the season.

Monticello and Tri-Valley squared off on Friday afternoon, with the Lady Panthers taking home the 14-10 victory. Melanie Merton was the winning pitcher for Monticello, and also netted three hits including a home run and scoring two runs. Isabella Velasquez (four) and Alexandra Cushing (three) combined for seven hits and six runs scored. Tri-Valley’s Jenna Carmody struck out six Monticello hitters, as well as having three hits and scoring two runs on offense.

Baseball

Monticello was on the road against Goshen on Friday, and the Gladiators cruised to a 16-1 win. Monticello’s seven errors were the difference in the game, as only five of the 16 runs were earned. Monticello had two hits and four walks throughout the game, but struck out 12 times over five innings.

Liberty and Chester battled on Friday, with the Hambletonians getting the better of the Indians 20-2. Tanner Bury tripled and drove in the two Liberty runs, and Francisco Gonzalez added two hits for the Indians.
