Narrowsburg

To the editor:

We listened to the recent August 8th Tusten town board meeting and were surprised to find that the board is entertaining the idea of constructing a 30 foot by 50 foot pavilion in the middle of a residential neighborhood!

The purpose of this structure would be to have events, both non-profit or for profit, at the proposed facility.

Most, if not all, the residents that attended the meeting last evening spoke out against this proposal.  

Many speakers were from The Flats area of Narrowsburg and questioned why the town would choose a quiet residential location for parties, concerts, and events.

And where would people park?

We believe that the Narrowsburg Flats is the wrong location for the proposed municipal “pavilion” in the Town of Tusten. 

The structure is completely out of scale and out of sync with the neighborhood and the small town atmosphere that is loved by both residents and visitors.

The current options for hosting a private event in the town are the Tusten Town Hall and the Narrowsburg Union, both of which have the necessary infrastructure and plenty of parking.

If the town feels it is absolutely necessary to build a large pavilion,

We suggest that the following locations would be much better choices to consider:

A. The Lava Firehouse as an alternative to building a pavilion. The firehouse has electricity, running water, a restroom, tables and chairs plus adequate parking. 

There is also enough land to add a shaded gazebo area if needed.

Or

B. If the town feels it is absolutely necessary to build a pavilion, then the ideal location would be the Fireman’s Field on DeMauro Lane. 

There is plenty of room there and it is not in the middle of a residential neighborhood. 

With either of those options, the fees generated by any rentals for the event space would be split between the Town of Tusten and the Narrowsburg Fire Department.
