FALLSBURG — Fallsburg hosted Liberty for their second head-to-head matchup of the season, and after Liberty took home the first win 1-0, Wednesday’s contest saw Fallsburg bring home a 2-0 victory.

The game had no division implications, but the student-athletes from both school put forth a great effort in the contest. The fierce rivalry between the two school rages on nonetheless.

The two teams battled evenly in the first half, leading to a scoreless contest at the break as neither team conceded a goal.

In the second half, however, Fallsburg was able to break through after Diego Bonilla and William Martinez found the back of the net.

The season series is an even 1-1 and Fallsburg’s overall record moved to 6-5 after the win.

Dylan Gaucher, Head Coach of the Comets, spoke proudly of his team saying, “[The game] was hard fought, but I think we were a better team than they were today. The first half was ugly and we played really poorly, but after some choice words at halftime, they came together and played much better, and we definitely deserved that win.”

The RedHawks coaches declined to comment after the game, but the team battled all afternoon.

Both teams reached the Sectional tournament for Class B in 2022, and although Liberty moved up to Class A both teams are looking to return to the playoffs this year.
