Consolation weekend for most county teams

SULLIVAN COUNTY — Three football teams across the county punched their ticket to the playoffs, all of which hailing from the 8-man division.

With that, many of the other teams in Sullivan County will be facing off with non-league opponents in crossover matchups with many hoping to end their season with a win.

Let’s get into this weekend’s action.

Friday Night Lights

Tri-Valley at Fallsburg, 6:30 p.m.

Fallsburg earned the No. 3 seed in this year’s 8-man playoff bracket, meaning they get to host a playoff game. The Comets should be all healed up and ready to play after a few bye weeks leading into the playoffs. Tri-Valley, on the other hand, had a tough stretch of games with Sullivan West, Pawling and Ellenville all putting up big numbers on the young Bears unit.

In their league matchup earlier in the season, Fallsburg jumped out to a big first half lead before cruising to victory over Tri-Valley, and they will look to do the same tonight as the winner will advance to face Sullivan West in the 8-man semifinal game.

As of late, Tri-Valley has struggled with turnovers. Fallsburg’s athletic secondary will likely look to capitalize on that to lead to some opportunistic scoring for the Comets.

Eldred at Millbrook/Webutuck, 7 p.m.

Eldred lit up the scoreboard last weekend as they dropped 50 points against Pine Plains, winning 50-30 and bringing their record back to .500.

Eldred opened their season at home with a huge shutout win over Millbrook, and now will be headed to the home of the Mustangs as they look to repeat a similar score and bring home their first winning season since 2009.

Monticello at Minisink Valley, 7 p.m.

Monticello has struggled tremendously in their last few weeks. Their offense has been unable to put up many points as they’ve dropped a handful of games in a row.

They’ll get another chance for a league win tonight as they travel to Minisink Valley to take on the 5-2 Warriors squad. Minisink will likely be a tough task as they boast a 169-83 point differential, meanwhile Monticello’s has dropped to 67-256.
