NEW PALTZ  — On the eve of their new mascot unveiling on Friday night, Liberty took down New Paltz on the road, 19-13, to pick up their first victory of the season. The game was a defensive struggle, as it was tied 7-7 at halftime. The RedHawks held the Huguenots scoreless until five minutes remaining in the first half. It went back and forth as the teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter, making it 13-13 going into the final 12 minutes. The defensive battle continued until four minutes left in the game, when Liberty found paydirt on a 30-yard rushing score.

The first win of the season for the football team was a great way to go into the mascot logo unveiling on Saturday. At noon during Liberty’s Fall Festival, they unveiled the logo, which has two variations. The first variation is a red hawk head and the second is a red hawk with its wings spread, displayed horizontally. Both variations have “Liberty” above the hawk and “RedHawks” below the hawk in red lettering.

“We really wanted to do something here that showcases us as a school and the new name - RedHawks,” Superintendent Dr.  Patrick Sullivan said.
