To the editor:

It appears that there is a “new sheriff in town” named Louis Ingrassia who is running for the recently vacated State Assembly position for Sullivan County and the city of Middletown (what a district drawing this is!).

This newly announced candidacy is just what this district doesn’t need nor does the State Republican Party. 

Here is an individual with no political elected experience, no endorsements from any official in Sullivan County and whose exposure and presence in Sullivan County is most likely limited to casino visits and/or hunting.

This candidacy is also an indictment on the Republican Party at all levels (local, state and national). 

At a time when this party is in utter disarray, it is going to need candidates especially at local levels to unite it as well as make it effective. A county such as Sullivan with so many pressing issues is going to need an experienced, competent, compassionate individual to effectively represent the people and address their needs.

There are many such individuals in the county who can do this (both sides of the aisle) and it is not Louis Ingrassia.
