White Lake - A dismal and damp weather forecast this past Saturday found Bethel Motor Speedway postponing the races until the following afternoon with the NASCAR Whelen All-American weekly series in action.

The Sunday show was utilized not only for the perfect weather conditions but to also allow Bethel's weekly competitors to compete one final time on a national level before the NASCAR deadline came to an end.

The pleasant afternoon found many former racers in attendance as the speedway showed its appreciation towards long-time racer Ed Stevens.

Stevens was given a special award for his achievement of being involved with auto racing for sixty plus years, serving in various roles in many different capacities.

Memorial races were also run in honor of Les Quick Sr. and Dick Crumley. Both were long-time supporters of the speedway and, like Stevens, both served in many roles at the track, helping many other racers along the way.

Track Championship races continued to gain attention as there are several close battles going on as the point season begins to wind down with only three more weeks before concluding with Championship Night on Saturday, October 5.

Defending pro stock track champion Ed Butler performed a ‘hat trick' by winning his third feature win in a row as he passed early leader Joe Barnes off the inside of turn two to take home the glory by winning the 47-lap Les Quick Memorial for pro stocks.

Butler's car, which was damaged in an earlier heat race, had to endure much pressure from current point leader Larry O'Donnell for much of the race as Butler couldn't open up a comfortable lead.

On Lap 30 the yellow flew for a spinning Porter Crawson in turn 4, which found O'Donnell surrendering second position to Gene Morton as he headed to the pits with an overheating problem.

On the restart, Morton showed his cards to Butler as he nosed ahead at times using his preferred outside lane. The two cars battled for the lead with the yellow coming out again for P. Crawson, who lost the handle on the frontstretch.

The final restart found Morton giving his trusty Thunderstang all it had and put in a stellar restart to acquire the lead on the outside, Butler refused to lose and pushed his Tavern on Main #32 to its limit, running the inner lane and began to nose back ahead of the determined Morton.

Lap 44, found Butler prevailing over Morton to gain control of the lead fully as Morton began to fade some. At the checkers, Butler picked up his biggest victory of the season over Morton with Barnes soldiering a third place finish.

Bethel Motor Speedway will be hosting ‘Music Night' this Saturday, September 21st. The night sponsored by Frank Stevens Roofing will be highlighted by the Detroit Iron 35 Lap Street Stock feature along with an Enduro plus Street Stock Elimination Races. There will be plenty of music and beats as a DJ will be spinning favorite songs behind the grandstands. Championships are close and intense, see the drivers racing hard to improve themselves to win coveted track championships. Racing begins at 6:30pm.
