]Elizabeth (Betty) Policoro recently of Hendersonville, NC, formerly of Roscoe, NY passed away peacefully on April 14, 2024 in Hendersonville, NC. She was 96. The daughter of Joseph and Augusta Walter, she was born July 22, 1927 in Livingston, NJ. Betty attended St. Dominic’s Academy in Caldwell, NJ. After high school, she attained her Registered Nursing certification in Morristown, NJ. It was during this period that she met the love of her life, her husband Vito. After their marriage they settled in Pompton Lakes, NJ where they raised their family.

Wherever Betty lived, she gave of herself to her community. While in Pompton Lakes, she was a member of the Ambulance Corps, the Fire Department Auxiliary, and the American Legion. She often did private duty nursing for family and friends in need, gratis. She was involved with the Girl Scouts in a volunteer capacity for several years. Betty was a communicant of St. Mary’s RC church of Pompton Lakes. She worked at The NJ Firemen’s Retirement Home in Boonton, NJ, and The Lakeside Nursing Home during those years. After her husband retired, they moved to Cameron, NY. There she was also a member of the Fire Department Auxiliary, and the Ambulance Corps. Her husband passed away in 1989. In 1991, Betty moved to Roscoe, NY. She joined the Roscoe Firemen’s Ladies Auxiliary soon after. She also joined the Sullivan County Retired Seniors Volunteers. For many years she helped with the Senior Lunches in Roscoe. During this time, she also worked at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty, NY.

In 2015 Betty moved to Hendersonville, NC. Her final years were spent there near her daughter Mary Lou.

Survivors include her daughters, Roni Macklem (Gary) of Manistique, MI, Ann Rajewski (William) of Roscoe, and Mary Lou DeAugustines of Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren, Chele Moon (Rainee Poff) of Waynesville, NC, Michael Kinseher (Christy) of Auburn, GA, Rebekah Kovarik (Jon) of Golden, CO, Tami Majszak (Nate) of Bozeman, MT, Christina Frankenberg of Roscoe, NY, Nicholas Rajewski of Grants Pass, OR, and Anthony Rajewski of Buffalo, NY. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Vito Policoro and her son, the Reverend Joseph Policoro.

A memorial will be held June 30, 2024 at the Roscoe Community Center in Roscoe, NY at 12:00 PM followed by a luncheon.  A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
