ELLENVILLE — The second annual Rumble in the Valley tournament in Ellenville took place over the weekend, with opening round games on Thursday and Friday leading up to the tournament finale on Saturday.

After eight hours of basketball, Rondout Valley took home the girls’ championship with a win over Webutuck while Ellenville defeated Fallsburg in the Boys’ Championship game.

In the opening round on Thursday afternoon, the Webutuck girls defeated Ellenville and Rondout defeated Tri-Valley 37-27 to set the consolation and championship matchups for the girls.

For the boys, Fallsburg defeated Tri-Valley in an overtime thriller to secure a trip to the championship while Ellenville defeated Liberty to make it to the final round.

The Tri-Valley girls were the first game of the afternoon on Saturday as they took on Ellenville in the consolation match.

Jenna Carmody was lethal in the contest, scoring a game-high 33 points as the Lady Bears were able to breeze past the Lady Blue Devils 52-35. Carmody had 25 points by halftime and continued to add to her total in the third and early in the fourth.

In the second match, the boys consolation between Tri-Valley and Liberty featured a much closer contest. Liberty’s Riley Totten scored a game-high 19 points, but it was Tri-Valley’s mixed attack that was able to secure the 56-43 victory.

Misha Khodakovski and Matt Fanslau each scored 16 points as Josh Fanslau added 10 and Austin Swett scored nine.

Liberty’s Adrien Ferguson added nine for the RedHawks as well.

Rondout after trailing for the first three quarters, found a burst of energy to propel themselves past Webutuck in the Girls’ Championship matchup, which led directly into the Boys’ Championship matchup between Fallsburg and the tournament hosts.

Ellenville took control early in the game, jumping out to a 20-3 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

Kristian Jackson scored 16 first half points for Ellenville and Jason Kiney added 17 in the first half as the Blue Devils led 43-14 at halftime.

Despite being down 29 points going into the third quarter, the Fallsburg offense continued to improve, scoring 32 second half points as they ended up losing 79-46.

“We let it get away from us in the first half,” Fallsburg Coach Lionel White said. “We played four games this week and finished 3-1, so that’s definitely something to build on going forward.”

Both Tri-Valley and Fallsburg will be hosting games tonight, with Burke visiting the Bears and the Sullivan West Bulldogs making their way to Fallsburg.
