To the editor:

Instead of the Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs of Sullivan County (FOSCOSC) focusing their loss of revenue of the way they make their funds to ‘do good’ in the community, the first part of their article should’ve been explaining what is wrong with Gov Hochul’s decision. 

With over 8000 members each could make a special donation of less than $2 to make up for this loss [of revenue] and still ‘do good’ in the community.

Their article should’ve started off with why the loss of the coyote hunt, not contest, was a lost benefit to the coyotes themselves, the USDA fish and wildlife division and etc. Wildlife studies are always needed and saving the taxpayer money to do them helps us all.

Gov. Holchul and legislators don’t understand. They see it as killing for prizes. You could set aside a day or so for a ‘special’ (concentrated effort) time period for collection of harvested coyotes or other species that get checked at a certain check-in-station for the studies, again taxpayer free, with a gathering at another stated time for such a dinner for the comradery of the hunters.

When it comes to government, it’s always about the money and not much on thought while when it comes to hunting it’s about the hobby, the comradery, the hunt, the stories, the thrill and the excitement of it all.

Gov. Holchul turned another WIN - WIN into a lose - lose.
