After a few missed opportunities, I finally was able to go to the Mohican Inn Restaurant and Bar. The food was very good and the restaurant was comfortable and has a nice fireplace. The menu features a lot of Italian specialties and has over twelve pizza options as well as steaks and chops, seafood, and pasta specialities. In addition, it has interesting selections of wraps and heroes, soups salads, burgers, and a very nice kid’s menu. My friend and I had an antipasto salad and sausage parmigiana sandwiches which was delicious. The service is very good and the staff is welcoming and friendly. The prices are very reasonable and I will be going back again. It so great that Highland has so many good restaurants now that we can choose from. The Mohican Inn and Restaurant and Bar is open Wednesdays through Sunday from 4:00-9pm and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. For more information visit their Facebook page or call 845-672-0340

When I was attending the St. Baldrick’s Day Event last weekend, I ran into my buddy Joseph Teller. He said that his sister, Yvonna, and her partner had recently been burnt out of their apartment. I spoke with Yvonna and she told me that the fire started in the apartment below her and they lost everything. At the time of the fire, she had just started treatment for breast cancer and things were extremely tough. Through some friends, the members of the Eldred Congregational Church helped Yvonna and Tom out with a donation and then stepped up and had a very successful bake sale. The funds from the sale made it possible for Tom and Yvonna to permanently relocate to housing in their neighborhood and replace some of their lost belongings. Yvonna felt badly that she and Tom never had the opportunity to express their appreciation for all the assistance they received and wanted to thank the members of the Church and the public for supporting them during their crisis. “I just wanted to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart in our community for helping us get back up on our feet” she told me. You can reach Yvonna by email at Yvonnazow@yahoo.com.

Just a reminder that Lou Monteleone will be collecting donations for St. Baldrick’s Foundation until the end of September which is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. So far this year Lou has raised$8,000 and he is inching ever closer to his grand total during the past seventeen years of $200,000. If you would like to donate, go to the St. Baldrick’s Fundraiser page on Facebook or go into the Pizza Piazza. Also, congratulations are in order as the Monteleone family is celebrating the one-year anniversary of their very popular hydroponic farm in Eldred known as Monteleone Gardens. This state-of-the-art hydro farm is able to provide freshly grown produce to the community all year long. Monteleone Gardens is one of only three hydroponic facilities in the County. And the produce is reasonably priced and literally “farm fresh” all year long. For more information visit the farm’s site on Facebook, Instagram and to order online go to www.monteleonegardens.com or call 914-357-5843.
