To the editor:

We of Interfaith Outreach United Inc. (IOU) heartily agree with your editorial of March 26 urging the governor to approve more funding for the Nourish New York program.  Food insecurity is a terrible thing.  In our own small way, we have been helping for many years by providing fresh-food vouchers for those in need in our service area.

Since 1987, IOU has helped many people, not only with food vouchers, but with assistance in overdue rent and utilities, gasoline, heating fuel, and more.  We provide food baskets at Thanksgiving and holiday presents for children and teens in December.  We also run the Main Street Thrift Shop in Callicoon, where gently used items are sold at reasonable prices.

We encourage those in our service area who need help to contact us at 845-887-5919. Our service area is a 15-mile radius of Callicoon, including into Pennsylvania: that includes areas such as Long Eddy, Roscoe, Livingston Manor, White Lake, Bethel, and Narrowsburg in NY; and Beach Lake, Milanville, Damascus, and Equinunk in PA; and any other place within that 15 miles.
