This summer JEMS will be presenting a Jazz Festival entitled Jeff Jazz Fest.  This festival will take place July 19, 20 and 21st.  On Saturday July 20th they will perform at The Backyard Park with the other two nights places  to be confirmed soon. Two of the performers will be local resident Thurman Barker and Jeffersonville resident and his son Noah Barker who graduated from Sullivan West and is now living in Los Angeles.  Thurman Barker has had an illustrious career starting out as the house drummer for the Shubert Theater in Chicago playing for the likes of Marvin Gaye, Billy Eckstein and Bette Midler.  At the same time, he became a member of the Association for Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM).  He has been recorded on over 30 albums and has recorded 6 under his own label, UPTEE Productions.  Most recently Thurman Barker accompanied fellow AACM member Amina Claudine Myers at the Kennedy Center for the National Endowment of the Arts Jazz Masters Concert.  Thurman’s son Noah has a Master’s Degree in Jazz Piano Performance from SUNY Purchase. He has toured with several alternative rock musicians and recorded 6 CDs under his label, Yesah Music.  Keep your eye out for more information to follow on the details of the Jeff Jazz Fest. The festival will be made possible with funding from a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts and administered by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.
