The comments made by Deputy County Attorney Tom Cawley in the article published on February 7th, 2023 inaccurately characterized the attitudes and behaviors of the majority of Sullivan County Democrats. Dozens of committee and community members met with Mr. Cawley in interviews that included very thoughtful and fair questions. No one attacked Mr. Cawley in these interviews. Not one person in those meetings “painted him as an illegitimate Democratic candidate.” I know, I attended several of them and heard about the others. Mr. Cawley had a fair hearing in those interviews, and, in fact, by all but two who attended the forum. Mr. Cawley chose to ignore the majority of Democrats and their efforts to pick the right candidate in an informed, thoughtful and respectful way. Instead, he responded to negative comments and questions directed at him by two individuals in one forum by jumping ship. Two individuals do not represent the majority of Sullivan County Democrats. To suggest otherwise is untrue.
