Kenoza Lake - March 6

Greetings faithful readers. I don't need to tell you that we have had a mild winter. The Canada geese know this as well. Last year, the Canada geese made their major migration over Pucky Huddle Road on March 14th.

This year, there were flocks of Canada geese migrating north over Pucky Huddle road on February 25th. The Otto residence has lots of Red-winged blackbirds, but we have yet to see one robin. Strange! Soon we will hear the peepers. Yes, there have been years with peepers, peeping in March. Ray and I have a bet as to when we see the first woodchuck for the year, one of the true hibernators. I said by March 5th, Ray, March 15th. Ray saw a dead woodchuck along the road, so I think, I won, right?

March 21st -the Ancient Order of the Hibernian's annual St. Patrick's Day on Saturday, March 21st. I believe that there will be a pancake breakfast that morning at the Catholic church. Also, Sue Bodenstein's store, will have its grand, re-opening at its new location, right next to the Jeffersonville post office. The new Jeffersonville bakery is offering balcony passes for the (fairly) reasonable price of $10, $15 and $20. Doors open at 11, parade starts at 1 p.m.

So, the Coronavirus story is the world-wide, story of the past few weeks. My dear friend Barbara Bruno pointed out to me that in fact, the label to the Clorox Scentiva disinfecting wipes says that the wipes kills flu the coronavirus. Okay. I get it. However, the Clorox wipes I bought, were purchased months ago. In fact if you google the topic, you will see that the Coronavirus did not start last December, but has been around for several decades. Maybe not the Corono-19 strain, but the coronavirus has been around for several decades.

Since I last wrote this column, we lost two ladies who contacted me over the years, regarding my Kenoza Lake news column. First, Barbara Hahn. I remember Mrs. Hahn emailing me and explaining to me why the deer don't seem to eat hay (even though they eat grass.). Second, Marie Frangipane, who would email items to publicize for the Bethel Lions Club. Both women were active community residents, who gave back to their community and neighbors. Jeffersonville and Bethel are both better places to live, thanks to their community devotion and involvement. We thank them for all that they did and express our heartfelt condolences to their family.

What do you think of those Geico ads with the woodchucks and the raccoons? The woodchuck, chucking the wood? There are several different ones with raccoons. Both the woodchuck and raccoon ads make me laugh. The only thing that doesn't make me laugh, is when I pay my Geico insurance bill as how much of the bill is going to pay for all this advertising?

Preaching schedule for Kenoza Lake, March: Dr. Allen Wachter on Sunday, March 8th, then Paul Thompson - March 15th, Linda Simmons, March 22nd and Paul Thompson - March 29th.

No Kenoza Lake news column next week. Hopefully the next column will be on March 20th, however it is tax season and I cannot promise.

Full Moon, Worm Moon, March 9th. And remember, Life does not have to be perfect, to be wonderful (Annette Funicello).
