Lady Bears bounce back following league loss

GRAHAMSVILLE -- With sports comes triumphant wins, easy blowouts, close games and unfortunately tough losses.

And in the moment to a young athlete, those losses are just that...tough.....but they also can serve as some of the best learning experiences in life.

The Tri-Valley Lady Bears faced a tough league game challenge last Thursday night in Florida when they faced the undefeated S.S. Seward Spartans girls basketball team led by their outstanding forward Alexa Roach.

It didn't fare well for Tri-Valley as Seward won by 23 points, 55-32 with Roach scoring 29 points.

So the best remedy for a tough league loss is to get right back on the competitive court of play which they did Friday night as Class D Livingston Manor journeyed to Grahamsville with an overall record of 3-6 but having lost two of their players just that week. The Lady Bears came away with a 53-35 non-league win.

Following a short 2-1 lead by the Wildcats, the Bears stretched a lead to 12-4 at 3:26 and ended the first eight minutes of play with a 14-6 lead.

Tri-Valley started the second quarter with Victoria Swett swishing the nets for a three-pointer stretching the Bears lead to 17-8 with Swett adding another trey giving Tri-Valley a nine-point 23-14 halftime lead.

The Bears took complete control of the game in the third quarter with strong rebounding, defense and an offensive punch that outscored the Wildcats 19 to 5 for a third quarter lead of 42-19.

Livingston Manor came back in the fourth quarter outscoring Tri-Valley 16-11, but the deficit was too large for them to overcome.

Bears' Coach Gary Ter Bush substituted freely in both the third and fourth quarters.

Turnovers played a big part of this game with Livingston Manor committing 22 to Tri-Valley's 11.

Samantha Severing led Livingston Manor in scoring with 17 points off one trey and six two-pointers. Haley Peck added 13 points off six deuces and one foul shot.

Top scorers for Tri-Valley were Juliana Kessler and Swett with 12 points each. Kessler hit on six two-pointers while Swett scored on three treys, one deuce and one foul shot.

Livingston Manor Coach Kevin Clifford in post game remarks said, “We came into this non-league game a little banged up, and we are just wanting to work on things and our main goal is to experiment with things we need to help us.”

“They (Tri-Valley) played well,” Clifford noted.

Tri-Valley Coach Gary Ter Bush in commenting on Thursday's loss to S.S. Seward said, “Last night we just did not play well but tonight everyone played well and all 12 played and added to this victory.”

Coach Ter Bush added that he looks forward to the Seward game on the Tri-Valley court.

Tri-Valley with the win, ups their overall record to 6-2, while their league record is 0-1.

Livingston Manor's overall record is now 3-7 and they have a league record of 0-1.
