Lady Indians secure non-league win over Roscoe

ROSCOE –– The Lady Indians got a much-needed win against the Lady Blue Devils on Monday night, completing a wire-to-wire 38-15 win over Roscoe.

Roscoe is competing at the varsity level for the first time in four years, and they are having some growing pains with a young team.

Liberty’s Emily Curry stole the show, leading her team to victory with a 22-point performance, with four of the team’s five baskets in the first quarter.

Roscoe, on the other hand, only managed to score once in the first quarter, in the final 40 seconds of the opening frame.

Roscoe won the second quarter 8 to 7, but after closing the lead by halftime, struggled offensively in the second half, only scoring five points for the remainder of the game.

Turnovers and empty possessions for Roscoe in the second half allowed Liberty to extend their lead in the final two quarters.

Roscoe’s defense improved in the second half, but they were unable to muster enough offense to close in on the Liberty lead.

After the game, Liberty’s Coach said, “It wasn’t the prettiest of games, but a win is a win. With eight kids out last week with the flu and only having practice once this past week, I was proud of my team for grinding and playing together like they did.”

“I’m proud of my starters,” he continued. “They each had moments that were integral to our success at different points in the game. Roscoe worked hard tonight, but in the end, we were able to pull through.”

Roscoe Coach Evan Bowers said, “We were able to stay with them in the first half, but we had too many missed opportunities and couldn’t seem to find the basket. Offensively, I was happy that we were able to get a player into the double digits for scoring, but ultimately we couldn’t sink enough of our shots or get stops on defense.”

The Lady Indians faced off against Chester Wednesday night, but due to the inclement weather Roscoe's matchups against Tri-Valley and Livingston Manor are postponed.
