Liberty Boys take fourth!

SIDNEY – Liberty’s track team made their way to Section IV on Saturday to compete in the Doug Quinney Invitational. Of the 14 schools there, the Liberty Boys placed 4th, while the girls placed 9th.

Track and Field

For the boys, Senior Wayne Kratz won the 200 meter dash and placed 5th in the 100 meter. Senior Gabe Desrochers took 2nd in the 800 meter run and 4th in the 400 meter dash. Senior Saun Coles took 2nd in the 110 meter high hurdles. Junior Eric Llanos placed 4th in the 800 meter run and 5th in the 400 meter dash. Senior Tim Dirie was 3rd in the 400 meter intermediate hurdles. Sophomore Carlos Campos-Castro ran to a 6th place finish in the 1600 meters.

In the 4x100 meter relay Liberty took 2nd. The team members were Seniors Chase Racette, Gabe Desrochers, Shaun Coles, and Waye Kratz. The 4x400 relay was the last race of the day and the most exciting. The team was made up of Tim Dirie, Eric Llanos, Carlos Campos-Castro and anchor Gabe Desrochers. Gabe received the baton well behind the runner from Oneonta but managed to overtake him to give Liberty the win by .4 seconds.

On the girls’ side, Alyssa Kavleski: 3rd place - 100m (13.49) 4th place - 200m (28.27) 5th place - Triple jump (31-01)

Anna Payton: 6th place - 400m (1:09)

4x400 relay team of Sheyla Anguisaca Llanos, Sydania Foster, Maddy Kelly & Zeimoni Dansby - 5th place (5:07)

Baseball

Monticello headed to Goshen on Thursday to square off against the Gladiators. The Panthers got in a hole early, surrendering 13 runs over the first two innings. They got one back in the top of the third before giving up three more runs to Goshen. The final two innings were more of the same, and the Panthers found themselves on the losing end of a 17-3 game. The Panthers hosted the Eldred Yellowjackets yesterday and host Middletown this afternoon.
