Make a Resolution for Self-Care this Year

Posted

As we welcome in the New Year, many of us have made resolutions that we may or may not keep. It is not too late to make one more that your local public library can help you keep - practicing self-care.

Did you know that studies have shown that reading for pleasure can help decrease the odds of feeling burnout or emotional exhaustion? Your local library gives you access to thousands of titles across a variety of mediums - books, magazines, e-books, e-audiobooks, etc. - all with just your library card. And the best part? If you're not enjoying a book, you can just return it and grab another one - no harm done, no money wasted!

Signing up for a library card is easy. Just bring current photo ID and something proving your physical address to your local branch and you'll be set! Most of the libraries in Sullivan County are based on school district boundaries, with a few exceptions. If you're unsure about which library you should go to, just give a call before heading out and we'd be happy to try and direct you.

Your local library also offers a variety of programs which can help you just relax for an hour or two out of your day. Some offer book clubs that meet monthly where you can sit around a chat about books and form friendships. Others may offer some light exercise programs that will teach you easy to do moves to help you de-stress at home or at work. Others even offer arts & crafts programs that allow you to explore your creativity.

Each library has their own schedule and types of programs that they offer, so hurry and stop in today and stick to that self-care resolution!
