LIBERTY- The New Paltz Huguenots football team paid a visit to the Liberty RedHawks on a mild sunny fall afternoon. Prior to the game the RedHawks coaching staff was expecting a competitive contest between the two squads. Last season Liberty edged New Paltz 20-14. The RedHawks were looking to build off a 14-0 loss last week to Marlboro.

This game started off with the Huguenots setting the tone on the opening offensive possession as they marched down the field and scored. New Paltz running back Luc Saguilan took a handoff for a rushing touchdown to get the scoring started with 7:46 on the clock in the first quarter. The RedHawks first possession with the ball on offensive was a 3 and out. This foreshadowed what was to come for the remainder of the game. Liberty had difficulty moving the ball on offense and getting much going all game. The Huguenots built on their opening drive score with another touchdown before the end of the first quarter. New Paltz quarterback Nick Drewnowski connected with wide receiver, Ben Gabriels on a long touchdown pass bringing the score to 14-0, Huguenots at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was a similar story to the first as the RedHawks offense would struggle to move the ball, and the RedHawks did not have an answer to slow down the visiting Huguenots. New Paltz would add to their lead with a rushing touchdown by Drewnowski to make it 21-0 Huguenots with 6:10 left in the second quarter. The RedHawks offense continued to look flat with the inability to get the ball moving in the second quarter of the first half. Nicolas Horowitz would add a rushing score with 31 seconds left in the half. This brought the score to 27-0, New Paltz over Liberty at half time. The second half would get started with the RedHawks receiving the ball. They would go 3 and out resulting in a punt. The first Huguenots possession of the second half resulted in a turnover on downs. This perhaps was one of the last opportunities to get the RedHawks back into this game. Unfortunately for Liberty they were unable to produce any momentum off the defensive stand. The second half featured many timeouts due to injury, with several players having to leave the game as a result.

New Paltz would open the scoring in the second half with a 10-yard touchdown run by Horowitz, which brought the score to 33-0, Huguenots, where it would remain at the end of that quarter. Liberty would find the scoreboard in the fourth quarter as quarterback Tayler Schwartz would run in a touchdown and 2-point conversion bringing the score to 33-8, New Paltz with 3:16 remaining in the game. The game would end in favor of the Huguenots over the RedHawks. New Paltz would take this league matchup in dominant fashion.
