The Delaware Youth Center has at times in its history been called the Delaware Community Center, and the “community” part of the name was more than apparent this Sunday morning.

Despite the threat of rain, some 200 walkers and runners were out in full force in Callicoon to support the return of the Youth Center's River Run ... and in turn support the center itself.

The largest fundraiser for the Callicoon non-profit was an all-virtual event in 2020 because of the pandemic, and a virtual run is now an annual part of the run for folks who want to support the center from far away. But Organizer Ann Santoro was overjoyed to see a host of familiar faces come back to support the organization in person.

"We love to see our community come out and support us," she noted.

This year’s race raised some $10,000 for the center, which is slowly but surely getting back to normal with the return of its summer program this month and the re-opening of its pool. That money? It will help the “community center” serve its community.
