Set on the bid, not on the location

LIBERTY – Although a project bid date was set for April 29, the exact location of the proposed Walnut Mountain pavilion was left undetermined by Liberty Town Board members during their meeting on March 4, where they “agreed to disagree.” On Monday, the discord regarding the location continued.

Town Board member John Lennon Jr. said in his agreement to disagree with the Town Supervisor, the vote to proceed in procuring a bid package at their last meeting did not include site plans, leaving him under the impression that the latter part was yet to be discussed in full.

Lennon, joined by Board Member Vincent McPhillips, said that he believed the projected pavilion should be pushed back further off the road by roughly 75 to 100 feet.

Supervisor Frank DeMayo rebutted, noting the additional costs that would arise with the relocation. He said those costs would include expanding the parking lot, extending the electrical wiring that much further and completing the pre-project survey, which would need to be completed to ensure the site could support the project. The survey would include test pits and drawings for the alternative site.

DeMayo said that the survey for its current projected location had cost roughly $6,900, although he noted that a new survey would likely not reach that high of a price.

The bid date for the anticipated Walnut Mountain Park Pavilion has been set for April 29, which will give insight to a possible cost to the proposed 60’ x 96’ pavilion. Immediately after that in a 3-2 vote, the Town Board decided to move forward with the alternate site engineering.

Board Members John Lennon Jr., Vincent McPhillips and Sharon Kavleski voted yes. Supervisor DeMayo and Board Member Dean Farrand voted no.
