Ken Cohen of Jeffersonville, third from left, was part of the winning Westchester Golf Association (WGA) team at this year’s Stoddard Cup held June 29 at Deepdale Golf Club in Long Island. The Stoddard Cup is the metropolitan area’s version of The Ryder Cup for the top amateur, mid-amateur and senior amateur golfers. Three 12-man teams representing the WGA, Long Island Golf Association (LIGA) and New Jersey State Golf Association (NJSGA) square off in the annual matches which include morning foursomes (alternate shot) and afternoon singles. The WGA won the Cup for the second consecutive year, outpointing the LIGA and NJSGA 21 to 18.5 to 12.5 respectively.

Cohen had a big day for the WGA contributing 3.5 out of possible 4 points. In the morning foursomes, he hit a seven-iron to within a foot on the 18th hole to secure the win against Long Island and a half point against New Jersey. In the afternoon singles, Cohen parlayed four birdies into easy 7&5 and 5&4 wins against Long Island and New Jersey.

Each team selected two seniors as part of their 12-man teams. Cohen earned his invite based on his strong 2022 season, which included a victory at the Westchester Senior Amateur and a tie for sixth at the MGA Senior Amateur. He was also part of the winning 1997 WGA Stoddard Cup team - before many of this year’s teammates were even born!
