SULLIVAN COUNTY – As students begin their summer vacation, let’s take a look back at the final season of the year with softball.

While some teams are still rebuilding, others have continued to cement themselves among the top of their classes.

Tri-Valley and Sullivan West both reached the Section IX Class C tournament, and each won their first playoff game before being eliminated in the semifinals.

Eldred, despite their award-winning battery graduating last spring, returned to the State Championship tournament after winning the Class D Championship.

In her senior year, before heading off to play college softball, Mackenzie Carlson paced the Livingston Manor offense and continued to dominate on the mound.

Across the county, teams found varying levels of success, even with the early season rains barring players from taking the field early on.

The Sullivan County Democrat Softball All-Star list highlights some of the many standout athletes from this season that found success on the field.

Eldred’s All-Stars include Bryn Greenfield, Lindsay Zgrodek, Molly McKerrell, Sydney Furler and Chloe Warming. They were instrumental in the Section IX Class D Championship season, before losing to State Champion Deposit/Hancock.

Despite being in a rebuilding year, Fallsburg’s Allison Perna lit up the field with her bat, including four hits in two games against rival Liberty.

Speaking of Liberty, Grace Wormuth, Megan Schmidt and Angelica Rothberg earned All-Star honors for Liberty, in their final season as the Lady Indians.

Mackenzie Carlson, Zaylee Cox, Leah Ladenhauf and Allison Froehlich found success for the combined Livingston Manor/Roscoe Lady Wildcats, with Carlson leading the way before graduating and going to play college softball.

Monticello’s All-Stars included Melanie Merton, Gianna DeMaio and Alex Cushing. The Lady Panthers accrued three wins this season, all against county schools, Tri-Valley, Eldred and Liberty.

Sullivan West, who returned to Sectionals and even won a post season game, had four All-Star recipients. Elizabeth Reeves, Gracyn Halloran, Nicole Reeves and Georgeanne Cardona represented the Lady Bulldogs.

Last but not least, Tri-Valley also entered the Class C Sectionals, and the Lady Bears were led by Jenna Carmody, Emily Rusin, Daniella Bell and Sierra Mickelson.
