DOWNSVILLE — The Sullivan West Lady Bulldogs opened their first game in the Downsville tournament with a 5-0 statement win over Liberty.

Violla Shami and Brooke Nunnari each netted two goals in the win, with Ella Herbert adding the fifth.

The Lady Bulldogs out-shot the Red Hawks 30 to 2 in the game, and Sullivan West controlled possession for most of the contest.

Violla Shami scored the first goal just two minutes and 17 seconds into the game.

At the 7 minute mark, Brooke Nunnari scored her first goal and the Bulldogs were quickly up 2-0.

Shami secured her second goal of the afternoon in the 16th minute, an unassisted goal to take a 3-0 lead.

Ella Herbert scored just before the 20th minute water break, and SW held a 4-0 lead with 60 minutes to play.

After controlling the ball and staying on the offensive side of the pitch, Brooke Nunnari was able to find the back of the net in the second half off an assist by Charlotte Cooper to give the Lady Bulldogs a 5-0 win.

Sullivan West continued their Downsville tournament contest with a match against Bainbridge-Guildford on Thursday afternoon.
