LAKE HUNTINGTON -- “Time is free but it's priceless. You can't own it but you can use it. You can't keep it but you can spend it but once you've lost it you can never get it back.” So goes the adage that sums up how time flies by and its preciousness.

Wasn't it just a minute ago that the basketball season finally got underway. Well now as of Monday it's over. But as brief as it was, at least for the Sullivan West Bulldogs, its memory will endure thanks to a rare league win over rival S.S. Seward.

While there were no fans to witness the commanding 55-41 win that began with an impressive 10-0 lead to start the fray, there were people looking in on the Livestream broadcast and cheering for the Dawgs who unfortunately could not hear their rallying cries. Had this been a normal season you can be sure the Dawg Pound would have been rocking.

Sullivan West's inside game proved overwhelming to Seward. Rob Gravelle's squad this year was small and inexperienced. They were outrebounded significantly as Ryan Mace and Chris Campanelli seemed to come down with the majority of boards off the offensive and defensive glass. SW lead 16-4 at the end of the first quarter and 29-15 at the break. The lead narrowed to 40-30 by the end of the third quarter.

Seward posted an impressive seven three-pointers and at one point narrowed the margin to six points but SW pulled away in the fourth quarter to cement the win.

Sullivan West Coach John Meyer summed up the game: “It was a good team win for us. We had a very good first quarter and used our size advantage to help build a lead. But as usual Seward hung around and made a few runs but we were fortunate to weather each run. We had a great team effort and balanced scoring from Ryan Mace, Cody Powell and Chris Campanelli who scored 19, 11 and 10 points respectively. Tariq Gambari played really well on both ends of the floor.”
