Election day is only four days away and the hundred of candidates who are running for public office in Sullivan County are busy shaking their last hands and kissing their last baby trying to win that all important vote.

The editorial and advertising teams at the Sullivan County Democrat have put their all into covering this year’s election and today – on pages 1-3C – you will find our Sample Ballot Reprint, which we hope helps educate our electorate on this year’s races.

But before you turn the page, please take a moment to thank the candidates you see on the street. It is only through their hard work and dedication that we – the voters –are able to have a choice in this, the United States of America, and the Republic for which it stands.

For you see, we do live in a Republic in which we elect our representatives to, yes, represent us.

This is our chance to have our say on who will run our government, who will administer our courtrooms, who will collect our taxes and who will prosecute our criminals. We, the voters, get to decided.

We have it easy, once a year we have to read our local community newspaper to find out who the best candidates are, go to the local coffee shop to meet them in person and then go to the polls to vote.

From there, the elected representatives have the tough job and that is fulfilling the obligations that they swear to uphold.
