n recent days, it seems like the elements themselves have been raising their powers against everyone trying to enjoy the outdoors in the county, and especially against the numerous local farmers and other agriculturally inclined individuals who work day-in and day-out despite what mother nature has in store that week.

The harsh weather conditions aren’t just on a day to day, or week to week basis, but have been consistent in their longevity over the past few months. A longstanding drought has kept available natural water down to its bare bones, in addition to a recent flash freeze that damaged or ruined the crops of many produce providers, are just some of the challenges that have proved to be negatively impactful to the crops, and the businesses of people who rely on them.

Now, even after all of that, a thick smog of smoke and fine particles filtered through the air around the county last week. Published reports around the area also note that despite the sky turning an orange tint and held onto a smokey smell, the work that had to be completed on the farmstead did not dissipate.

Through it all, our farmers continued to dig through dirt, pluck produce, feed the livestock, and run their farms with the same endurance that has been known as a staple to many around the area. To those who braced the smog, fought off a drought, and remained committed after the flash freezes to keep our local produce alive, healthy, and clean, we thank you for your work.

Farmers are the backbone of Sullivan County.

We could not exist without your work.

After all of the diligence put in by our farmers, it was lovely to see such bright and smiling faces participate and watch the annual tractor parade that took place over the weekend. The massive machines of the backbones of America were roaring and distinctive, and the people steering them down main street were jubilant. Thank you for knowing how to work hard and play hard, and the hopes for next year’s tractor parade are already spiking.
